On November 5, 2026, the second Regional seminar on the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Islamic world concluded in Almaty. The seminar brought together government officials and cultural heritage experts from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Over the course of three days, participants discussed the preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, the preparation of nomination documents for inclusion on the Islamic World Heritage List, as well as inventory and management. Particular attention was paid to international experience and practical mechanisms for the protection of cultural heritage.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aibek Sydykov emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
"Our countries are united by deep historical and cultural ties, so it is important to jointly study, preserve, and promote this heritage. Of particular significance is the designation of Turkestan as the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World in 2027. This will open up new opportunities for strengthening cooperation with ISESCO and promoting Kazakhstan's historical and cultural heritage," the Deputy Minister noted.
In turn, ISESCO Director-General Dr. Salim M. Al Malik thanked Kazakhstan for organizing the seminar and confirmed its commitment to further developing cooperation in the field of cultural heritage preservation. Following the event, participants were awarded certificates.
