Starting November 1, 2026, a new national standard for concrete canvas will come into force in Kazakhstan. The document establishes unified quality requirements for the material used to reinforce channels, slopes, and water management facilities.
Standard ST RK 4051-2026«Concrete canvas. Technical specifications» was approved by order of the Chairman of the Committee for Technical Regulation and Metrology of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The document was developed by RSE «Kazakhstan Institute of Standardization and Metrology» upon the request of LLP «Kazakh Industrial Stroi» in order to support domestic manufacturers and establish unified requirements for the production, testing, and application of concrete canvas.
Concrete canvas is a geosynthetic composite material based on a dry cement composition. After moistening, it acquires strength and rigidity.
The material is used in the construction, repair, and restoration of hydraulic engineering and other water management facilities. It is applied for reinforcing coatings, slopes, and embankments, constructing drainage channels, irrigation and land reclamation facilities, artificial reservoirs, and concrete trays. The standard does not apply to materials for the construction of public roads and temporary roads.
The document defines the characteristics that concrete canvas must meet. These include flexural and tensile strength, compressive strength of the cement mortar, resistance to static puncture, water tightness, frost resistance, and water absorption.
The procedure for product acceptance and the conduct of acceptance and periodic tests are specified separately. Each batch must be accompanied by a quality certificate. It contains information about the manufacturer and the batch, the number of rolls, and the results of the relevant tests.
Unified requirements will help manufacturers control product quality and enable customers to evaluate its characteristics. This will create conditions for the development of domestic production and increased competitiveness of Kazakhstani materials.
