Kazakhstan Launches Russian Labeling Code Ordering Module for 15 New Product Categories

Kazakhstan has launched a module for ordering Russian labeling codes for 15 new product categories. Domestic manufacturers and exporters, including marketplace sellers, can now obtain the required codes through Tañba, Kazakhstan’s Unified Operator for Product Labeling and Traceability, to supply goods to the Russian market.

The new mechanism covers the following product categories: perfumes, tires and tire covers, cameras and flash units, cosmetics and household chemicals, children’s games and toys, packaged water, animal feed, sturgeon and salmon caviar, bicycles and bicycle frames, certain types of construction materials, antiseptics and disinfectants, confectionery, sports nutrition, canned goods, and vegetable oils.

The module is designed to address practical challenges arising from differences in the timelines for introducing mandatory labeling requirements. If a product is already subject to mandatory labeling in Russia but the requirement has not yet been introduced in Kazakhstan, businesses must obtain Russian labeling codes to supply the Russian market. This also applies to products intended for sale through marketplaces. The procedure is now available through the Tañba system.

The cryptographically protected codes are generated by the Russian operator CRPT Operator LLC, while the Kazakhstani operator facilitates their ordering and receipt. Data exchange between the national systems takes place through secure channels.

“The new mechanism enables businesses to comply with Russian requirements through the Tañba system without involving intermediaries. It is important for us that differences in the timelines for introducing labeling requirements do not create additional barriers for domestic businesses,” said A. Utegaliev, Deputy Director of the Department of Digital Transformation and Product Labeling.

Businesses apply the received codes to goods intended for cross-border shipment to Russia. This procedure enables them to meet Russian labeling requirements while ordering the codes through an operator in their own country.

The mechanism has been implemented in accordance with Decision No. 19 of the Eurasian Economic Commission Council dated March 5, 2021, which establishes the procedure for interaction between national labeling systems within the Eurasian Economic Union.

A similar mechanism has been in place between Kazakhstan and Russia for light industry products since 2024. The addition of 15 more product categories expands opportunities for Kazakhstani businesses and simplifies the preparation of goods for supply to the Russian market.
