Every second Sunday of September, Kazakhstan celebrates Family Day — a holiday designed to highlight the importance of family values, mutual understanding, and support. Ahead of this date, the State Corporation "Government for Citizens" presents statistics on marriage registration in the country.
From January to August 2026, 74,648 marriages were officially registered in the country. More than half of them occurred during the three summer months. It is in summer that Kazakhstan sees a high level of marriage registration activity.
"The functions of the Civil Registry Office were transferred to the state corporation on July 1, 2023. During this time, our employees have registered about 400,000 marriages and issued over 1 million birth certificates. Behind each such service are important events in people's lives. Therefore, we are consistently improving processes, developing digital services, and striving to make receiving government services as convenient, comfortable, and accessible as possible for citizens", —noted Arman Kenzhegaliyev, Chairman of the Board of the Non-Profit Joint Stock Company State Corporation "Government for Citizens".
Family stories are being created in all regions of the country, but the largest number of marriage registrations occur in major cities and densely populated areas. Almaty became the leader — 12,344 families were officially registered here. In second place is Astana, where 9,074 couples formalized their relationships, and in third place is the Turkestan region, where this figure reached 5,611.
The most "wedding" month was June — during this period, more than 15,000 couples officially registered their relationships. In August, 11,761 marriages were registered, and in July — 11,674. In total, over 38,000 marriages were concluded in the country over the summer, which accounts for more than half of the total number of marriages registered in the first eight months of 2026.
Marriage registration is a government service in the field of civil status registration. An application for marriage registration can be submitted directly to the registering authority, in electronic format through the e-government portal, as well as through mobile applications of second-tier banks.
