Alikhan Smailov

Born on December 18, 1972, in Almaty.

In 1994, he graduated from Al-Farabi Kazakh State National University with a degree in Applied Mathematics.

In 1996, he graduated from the Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics and Forecasting under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan with a Master’s degree in Public Administration.

From 1993 to 1999, he held positions at the “A-Invest” Investment and Privatization Fund, the National Statistics Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Committee on Statistics and Analysis of the Agency for Statistical Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He also served as a State Inspector at the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

1999–2003: Chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Statistics.

2003–2006: Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Chairman of the Governing Board of the State Insurance Company for Export Credit and Investment Insurance.

2006–2009: Vice-Minister of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan; President of “KazAgro” National Holding JSC.

2009–2014: Chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Statistics.

2014–2015: Chairman of the Statistics Committee of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

2015–2018: Assistant to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

2018–2019: Minister of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

2019–2021: First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

2022–2024: Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

By Presidential Decree No. 512 dated April 1, 2024, he was appointed Chairman of the Supreme Audit Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
