The regional symbol of Almaty Region was approved on May 15, 2026, at the regular session of the Almaty Regional Maslikhat.
Description of the Regional Symbol of Almaty Region
The regional symbol of Almaty Region is designed in the shape of a circle and reflects national traditions, as well as the historical, cultural, and geographical features of the region.
In the center of the symbol, inside a blue circle, against the background of sun rays, there is an image of a golden headdress of a Saka warrior (5th–4th centuries BC), 70 cm in height. On both sides of it are depicted winged snow leopards (3rd–4th centuries BC). The upper part of the headdress contains a graphic image of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains, while the lower part depicts the waves of the Ili River.
In the upper part of the circle, a shanyrak is depicted; on both sides are apple fruits, and in the lower part there is a yellow inscription: “ALMATY REGION.” Along the inner contour of the outer circle are elements from the dagger of the “Golden Man” (the head of a bird of prey). All images and inscriptions are made in yellow as a symbol of courage and prosperity. The edges of the symbol are decorated with a border.

Description:
1. The “Golden Man” headdress — the headdress of a Saka warrior in golden attire, dating back to the 5th–4th centuries BC, discovered near the city of Esik in Almaty Region. The headdress contains elements depicting a bow and arrows, as well as a winged horse, argali, and mountain goat.
2. Trans-Ili Alatau — a mountain range located in the northern part of the Tien Shan mountain system. It is a tourism brand of Almaty Region.
3. Shanyrak — in Kazakh culture, a sacred symbol of family, continuity of generations, traditions, and unity.
4. Winged leopard — an image of a snow leopard from the Issyk burial mound (3rd–4th centuries BC), symbolizing courage and prosperity.
5. Apple (Aport) — depicted together with the Tree of Life and national ornament as a unified image. The five apples symbolize the five districts of the Almaty Region. The apple (Aport) is a fruit grown on the slopes of the Trans-Ili Alatau and symbolizes the natural wealth and fertility of the region.
The Tree of Life — a symbol of evolution, origin, as well as the unity of earth and sky.
Kazakh national ornament — one of the significant cultural values that developed over centuries under the influence of the art of nomadic tribes.
6. Ili River — the largest river in Almaty Region, flowing into the Kapchagay Reservoir and Lake Balkhash. It is formed by the confluence of the Tekes and Kunes rivers. Its total length is 1,469 km, of which 815 km flow through the territory of Kazakhstan. The source of the river is located in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China.
