    About the Maslikhat

    A local representative body ( maslikhat) is an elected body chosen by the population of a region, a city of republican significance, the capital, or a district (a city of regional significance). It represents the will of the local population and, in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, determines the measures necessary for its implementation and oversees their execution.

    Within the scope of its authority, the maslikhat approves plans, as well as economic and social development programs for the respective territory, the local budget, and reports on its implementation. It monitors the execution of these plans and programs, resolves issues related to local administrative and territorial organization that fall within its jurisdiction, regulates land relations in accordance with the land legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and promotes compliance by citizens and organizations with the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, laws, acts of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and normative legal acts of central and local government bodies.

    The maslikhat exercises its powers through its sessions, standing commissions and other bodies, deputies, and the Secretary of the maslikhat, in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The principal form of the maslikhat’s activity is its session, during which issues assigned to its jurisdiction by law are considered and decided.
