Kaunas, 6 November 2026 – Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Lithuania, Timur Urazayev, visited Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas and met with its Rector, Ineta Dabašinskienė. The university is home to 78 Kazakhstani students, out of more than 100 Kazakhstani nationals studying in Kaunas.
The Rector, a Lithuanian scholar and member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, is well acquainted with Kazakhstan and its education system. She highly praised programmes such as the Bolashak Scholarship and iQanat, which have contributed to the high level of knowledge and responsible attitude towards studies demonstrated by Kazakhstani students.
For his part, the Ambassador highlighted the importance attached by the state to science and higher education, as well as the “cult of knowledge” in Kazakhstan’s development strategy. Over the past seven years, 1,483 kindergartens have been opened, 1,342 schools have been built, and more than 655,000 higher education grants have been allocated, totalling 1.5 trillion tenge. It was also emphasised that a significant part of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s State of the Nation Address was devoted to knowledge and education, particularly strengthening scientific infrastructure and training qualified specialists, including for the nuclear energy sector.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation in education and science. The Rector noted the university’s close ties with Kazakhstani higher education institutions and the active development of academic exchanges.
The visit also included a meeting with Kazakhstani students, who shared their experiences regarding study and living conditions in Lithuania, as well as their needs for consular assistance.
