During the ceremony, particular attention was paid to Kazakhstan’s historic contribution to nuclear disarmament. In particular, the country’s voluntary renunciation of the nuclear arsenal inherited following the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the closure of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site in 1991 were highlighted.
