Kazakhstan Introduces Electronic Travel Authorization for Foreign Nationals
Starting from 1 November 2026, Kazakhstan will begin the phased implementation of an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system for foreign nationals and stateless persons.
The initiative aims to digitalize migration processes, simplify border crossing procedures and improve the effectiveness of preliminary screening of individuals entering the country.
Implementation Timeline
In accordance with the Resolution adopted by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on 10 October 2026, the system will be introduced in several stages:
- From 1 November 2026 — at Aktau International Airport and the following road border crossing points: Urlyutobe (Pavlodar Region), Aukhatti (Zhambyl Region), Atameken (Turkistan Region) and Nurly Zhol (Zhetisu Region).
- From 1 January 2027 — at the international airports of Astana and Almaty.
- From 1 March 2027 — at all remaining border crossing points along the State Border.
- From 1 July 2027 — possession of an electronic travel authorization will become mandatory. Failure to obtain an ETA will constitute grounds for refusal of entry into Kazakhstan.
❗ Important: Until 1 July 2027, the absence of an ETA, by itself, will not constitute grounds for refusing entry into Kazakhstan. During the transition period, foreign nationals will be provided with information and guidance on how to obtain the electronic authorization.
How to Obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)
The authorization will be free of charge and available through the QazETA digital platform.
Application procedure:
- Download the official QazETA mobile application from Google Play or the App Store, or use the web version at https://qazeta.kz.
- Register by providing your email address or phone number and verify your contact details.
- Submit an ETA application. It is recommended to apply no later than 72 hours before the intended date of crossing the border.
- Complete the required information and upload the necessary documents:
- Passport or another travel document accepted under the applicable entry regulations;
- A photograph or scanned copy of the document;
- Information about the purpose and duration of the trip;
- Contact details;
- Additional documents, if required.
- Receive your electronic authorization.
According to the announced conditions, the authorization will be valid for 180 days and will allow multiple entries during its validity period.
What Should You Keep in Mind?
- The electronic authorization is free of charge.
- An ETA does not replace a visa where a visa is required under the applicable entry regulations.
- Obtaining an ETA does not extend the permitted period of stay in Kazakhstan and does not guarantee automatic admission across the State Border.
- Certain categories of foreign nationals are exempt from the authorization requirement, including holders of diplomatic and service passports, accredited diplomats, members of official delegations, as well as persons holding a valid visa or residence permit in Kazakhstan.
- It will also be possible to obtain the authorization directly at the border.
Foreign nationals planning to travel to Kazakhstan are advised to familiarize themselves with the electronic authorization procedure in advance and monitor the latest requirements on the official website:
