Kazakhstan’s Multi-Vector Diplomacy Amid Geopolitical Changes Discussed in Madrid

Madrid, 27 October 2026 – IE University, one of Spain’s prestigious universities, hosted a conference dedicated to Kazakhstan’s development since gaining independence. The keynote speaker was the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Spain, Danat Mussayev. The discussion was moderated by Spanish political analysts Antonio Alonso and José Luis Herrero.

The conference explored the key principles of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy, its role as a middle power on the international stage, and the country’s contributions to nuclear disarmament, multilateral cooperation and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Ambassador Mussayev also highlighted Kazakhstan’s main achievements over 35 years of independence, focusing on economic modernisation, investment potential and the development of the Middle Corridor as an important transport route connecting Europe and Asia.

Particular attention was paid to political and constitutional reforms, including the adoption of a new Constitution, the transition to a unicameral Parliament and the strengthening of mechanisms for protecting citizens’ rights and freedoms.

A distinctive feature of the conference was its interactive format, which included discussions of practical case studies. The session sparked a lively debate, during which participants proposed their own approaches to the challenges presented and compared them with Kazakhstan’s experience.

The conference concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which the Ambassador exchanged views with the audience on current issues relating to Kazakhstan’s foreign policy and development.
