Seoul, 21 September 2026 – The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) signed a Host Country Agreement.
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Agreement was signed by Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Korea Asset Issenali. GGGI was represented by Executive Director Kim Sang-hyup.
The signing marks an important milestone in the partnership between Kazakhstan and GGGI and opens a new chapter of practical cooperation in the fields of green growth and sustainable development.
Kazakhstan has been a Member State of GGGI since 2022. Since then, cooperation between the two sides has steadily expanded, covering the green economy, climate policy, sustainable development and investment mobilization.
Ambassador Asset Issenali noted that the Agreement is intended to strengthen GGGI’s presence in Kazakhstan and support the implementation of shared green growth priorities through the development of concrete and investment-ready projects.
He highlighted the strong potential for cooperation in such areas as clean energy and hydrogen, water resources management, green finance, low-carbon and climate-resilient urban development, as well as the application of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, for sustainable development.
“Our shared objective is practical: to mobilize expertise, technologies and investment for projects that support Kazakhstan’s green transition and deliver tangible economic and environmental results,” the Ambassador said.
GGGI Executive Director Kim Sang-hyup noted that the Agreement provides an important foundation for the next stage of the partnership between Kazakhstan and the Institute. He stated that GGGI plans to open a country office in Kazakhstan as early as next year and views Kazakhstan as an important hub for expanding GGGI’s engagement in Central Asia.
He also expressed appreciation to the Embassy and the Government of Kazakhstan for their support and emphasized GGGI’s readiness to translate the partnership into concrete projects, investments and practical green growth outcomes.
The Agreement is expected to create additional opportunities for expanding GGGI’s activities in Kazakhstan, strengthening cooperation with government institutions and international partners, and attracting investment in green growth projects.
