Seoul, 21 September 2026 – Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Korea Asset Issenali met with Choi Jin Shik, Chairman of the Federation of Middle Market Enterprises of Korea (FOMEK).
The meeting followed up on the agreements reached during the recent state visit of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Republic of Korea and focused on strengthening direct engagement with the Korean business community.
The sides discussed opportunities to involve leading Korean Middle Market Enterprises (MMEs) in investment and manufacturing projects in Kazakhstan. Particular attention was given to critical minerals and their downstream processing, mechanical engineering and automotive component manufacturing, advanced manufacturing technologies, digitalisation, and infrastructure development.
The Ambassador emphasised Kazakhstan’s interest not only in attracting Korean investment, but also in localising production, facilitating technology transfer, and establishing new high-value-added production chains in the country.
The meeting also addressed opportunities for FOMEK member companies to enter the Kazakh market and use Kazakhstan as a platform for expanding their operations across Central Asia.
The sides agreed to establish a direct working channel between the Embassy and FOMEK to identify promising Korean companies and work with them on specific investment projects in Kazakhstan. They also agreed to explore the organisation of targeted business events and business missions.
FOMEK is the only specialised economic organisation in the Republic of Korea representing the interests of the country’s MMEs. The Federation represents 6,474 companies, which account for a significant share of Korea’s industrial production, exports, and investment.
