More than 74,000 New Families Formed in Kazakhstan Since the Beginning of the Year
The second Sunday of September is celebrated as Family Day in Kazakhstan — a holiday designed to highlight the importance of family values, mutual understanding, and support. Ahead of the occasion, the State Corporation “Government for Citizens” has presented statistics on marriage registrations across the country.
From January through August 2026, a total of 74,648 marriages were officially registered in Kazakhstan. More than half of them took place during the three summer months. Summer is traditionally the period of highest marriage registration activity in Kazakhstan.
“Civil registry functions were transferred to the State Corporation on July 1, 2023. Since then, our employees have registered around 400,000 marriages and issued more than 1 million birth certificates. Behind each of these services are important events in people’s lives. That is why we are consistently improving our processes, developing digital services, and striving to make government services as convenient, comfortable, and accessible as possible for citizens,” said Arman Kenzhegaliev, Chairman of the Board of the State Corporation “Government for Citizens.”
Family stories are being created in every region of the country. However, the largest number of marriage registrations is recorded in Kazakhstan’s biggest cities and most densely populated regions. Almaty took the lead, with 12,344 couples officially registering their marriages. Astana ranked second with 9,074 couples, followed by Turkistan Region with 5,611 marriages.
June was the most popular “wedding month,” with more than 15,000 couples officially registering their marriages. In August, 11,761 marriages were registered, while July saw 11,674. In total, more than 38,000 marriages were registered across the country during the summer, accounting for more than half of all marriages registered during the first eight months of 2026.
Marriage registration is a government service related to the registration of civil status acts. Couples can submit an application directly to a civil registry office, electronically through the e-government portal, or via mobile applications of second-tier banks.
