7 September 2026, Ploiești — A new primary school was officially opened in Ploiești with the support of KMG International (Rompetrol), in cooperation with the Municipality of Ploiești.
KMG International, part of Kazakhstan’s national oil and gas company KazMunayGas, has been contributing to Romania’s economic and social development for many years, including the development of the city of Ploiești, where the Vega refinery operated by Rompetrol is located.
The opening of the school is particularly significant for strengthening humanitarian and cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Romania. Four classrooms will be named after prominent Kazakh figures: Abay Kunanbayuly, Kanysh Satpayev, Magzhan Zhumabayev, and Mukagali Makatayev.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Embassy, the Municipality of Ploiești, Rompetrol, the education community, teachers, parents, and students.
The primary school will operate under the administration of the I.L.Caragiale National College and will accommodate 120 students across four primary-school classes.
During the visit, the delegation also visited the Vega Oil Refinery, the oldest operating oil refinery in Romania. Embassy representatives were briefed on the refinery’s operations and the projects being implemented there. The refinery holds a unique position in Romania’s oil refining industry, as it is the country’s only producer of bitumen and n-hexane.
These events are a clear demonstration of Rompetrol's long-standing contribution to Romania's economic and social development. By combining support for the country's industrial potential with the implementation of significant social and educational initiatives, the company contributes to strengthening friendship and cooperation between Kazakhstan and Romania.
