The world-renowned F1H2O World Championship, the premier international powerboat racing series, may be held at the Kapshagay Reservoir over the next five years. Today, the organizers of the championship visited the Almaty Region and met with the Governor (Akim) of the region, Marat Sultangaziyev. Following the meeting, representatives of the international F1H2O organization, iHolding, the official delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Akimat of the Almaty Region signed an agreement providing for the hosting of an F1H2O World Championship round in Konaev in 2027, according to the press service of the Akim of the Almaty Region.
Kazakhstan is expected to become the sixth country to host the championship. The event is projected to attract at least 5,000 international visitors, while the total number of spectators, including local residents and domestic tourists, is expected to be significantly higher. In addition, television and online broadcasts of the high-speed water races are forecast to reach an audience of around one billion viewers worldwide.
"Saudi Arabia has successfully delivered world-class international sporting projects, placing particular emphasis on developing global competitions and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The Almaty Region is also actively advancing this direction. Every year, the Kapshagay Reservoir hosts the Tengri Ultra ultramarathon, the international Oceanman open-water swimming competition, as well as national sporting events. Hosting international tournaments of this scale contributes to tourism development and creates new opportunities for the region's socio-economic growth. Therefore, we are ready to implement this project together," said Marat Sultangaziyev.
Chairman of the Board and representative of KSA ProMediaPortal and F1H2O, Yasser Ali Al-Yami, noted that the championship currently features teams from 11 countries. Due to the highly technical nature of the competition and its demanding standards, participation is limited to specially trained professional teams.
He emphasized that spectator safety will be fully ensured throughout the event. Plans include the construction of VIP hospitality areas, a race control center, dedicated team preparation facilities, and a state-of-the-art media center. Family entertainment zones will also be established, allowing visitors to experience Kazakhstan's culture, sample traditional cuisine, and purchase local souvenirs. In addition to the racing program, fans will enjoy a wide range of entertainment activities, while the championship will conclude with a grand gala concert featuring internationally renowned performers.

Over the next five years, the Almaty Region is expected to welcome sports enthusiasts from around the world, while Konaev has the potential to become one of the region's leading tourism destinations. Hosting the F1H2O World Championship will showcase Kazakhstan on the international stage, highlighting its spectacular natural landscapes and economic potential. The event is also expected to stimulate foreign investment, accelerate infrastructure development, and contribute to the region's long-term economic growth.
