In accordance with the directive of the Head of State issued during the 4th session of the National Kurultai, efforts to inscribe Kazakhstan's documentary heritage on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register have significantly intensified.
On November 5, 2026, in Jakarta, Indonesia, at the 11th General Meeting of the Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP), two Kazakh nominations - the «Issyk Inscription» (on the silver bowl from the Issyk kurgan) and the «Collection of Mashkhur-Jusup Kopeev’s Printed Editions» - were inscribed on the UNESCO Regional Register for the first time.
This achievement was made possible through the sustained efforts of the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO and ICESCO and its Memory of the World Committee, aimed at identifying, studying, preserving, and promoting the country's documentary heritage.
More than 100 delegates from 23 Asia-Pacific countries took part in the Jakarta meeting. Experts reviewed participating states’ progress reports on the development of the Memory of the World Programme and approved the inscription of 21 documentary heritage nominations.
The preparation of these national nominations provided Kazakh specialists with valuable professional development opportunities and helped expand their networks with relevant institutions and international expert community.
This milestone makes a tangible contribution to the international promotion of Kazakhstan's historical and cultural heritage, reinforcing its presence in the global space of documentary memory.
