As part of the AI Labs concept, Astana Hub and Ghent University (Belgium) are opening a joint Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics Laboratory at Alem.ai. The laboratory will bring together scientists from both countries to conduct joint research, develop talent, create startups and attract international funding.

The laboratory is part of the AI Labs concept, which develops joint research with leading universities worldwide atAlem.ai.

Mathematics is the foundation of artificial intelligence: training any AI model relies on optimisation methods, statistics and probability theory. The laboratory therefore links fundamental mathematics with applied AI challenges.

Scientists from Ghent University and Kazakhstan, including members of Kazakhstan’s scientific diaspora, will run joint research projects, develop new AI technologies and train young researchers. The first areas of work will be applying AI and neurotechnology to personalised learning and developing an AI solution for early screening for Parkinson’s disease.

As part of the official visit, a telescope was also handed over, opening up new opportunities for space exploration and the development of scientific cooperation.

The partners plan to submit joint applications for Horizon Europe grants and to attract investment in the laboratory’s research and development.

The laboratory’s key outcomes will be new talent in artificial intelligence and mathematics, technology startups and joint research projects.
