Safe road — safe childhood: lessons in interview format for schoolchildren of the region

A series of lessons on road safety for students in grades 1-4 was held in the East Kazakhstan region. The organizer was the KSU "East Kazakhstan Regional Scientific and Methodological Center for Informatization and Educational Development "Yerken" of the East Kazakhstan Region Education Department. The classes were conducted in the interview format in two languages — Russian and Kazakh, which made it possible to reach a wide audience of schoolchildren in the region. The speaker was the public health doctor of the medical institution "Center for Preventive Medicine "Shygys" Batyrkhanova Aigerim Armankyzy.

The topic of the lessons — "Safe road" — is especially relevant for younger students who are just starting to move independently along the route home — school — home. During the conversation, the speaker elaborated on the basic rules of behavior on the road. She stressed that the child's body is still growing and developing, so any injuries can have serious consequences. The child should be attentive, not run across the street, not play near the roadway and not be distracted by the phone.

Special attention was paid to first aid for injuries. The doctor told me how to deal with abrasions, bruises, dislocations and fractures. The main thing is to remain calm, inform the adults and, if necessary, call an ambulance at 103 or 112. Before the arrival of medics, it is impossible to lift or carry the victim unnecessarily, especially if there is an injury to the head, back or limbs.

The speaker also touched upon safety issues when riding bicycles and scooters. She recommended using a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and reflectors, choosing safe places to ride and monitoring the serviceability of transport. Reflective elements on clothing are mandatory at night.

During the interview, the behavior in the car was also discussed. The doctor reminded that a seat belt is necessary for all passengers, including those sitting in the back, and special restraints should be used for children. Do not lean out of the window or open the door while driving.

The students learned what to do if the traffic light doesn't work or the ball rolls onto the road. In all cases, it is better to seek help from adults and not take any risks. Running out onto the road and using the phone while crossing were among the most common mistakes children made.

In conclusion, the speaker gave the main advice: follow the rules of the road, do not look at the phone and remember that safety is the responsibility of the person himself. The lessons were interesting and informative, and the knowledge gained will help children make their way to school and back as safe as possible.
