Almost 2 Million Tenge Worth of Illegal Cigarettes Seized in Kostanay
Illegal trafficking in tobacco products has been uncovered in Kostanay.
On June 9, 2026, employees of the State Revenue Department for the Kostanay Region conducted control measures at the city’s Central Market and discovered a batch of tobacco products showing signs of non-compliance with legal requirements.
A total of 3,860 packs of tobacco products worth 1,930,000 tenge were seized from illegal circulation.
According to the Department, such measures are aimed not only at detecting violations but also at preventing the illicit trade in excisable goods. Illegal tobacco products cause losses to the state budget, create unfair conditions for law-abiding businesses, and pose risks to consumers.
Administrative proceedings were initiated under Part 2 of Article 283 of the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Administrative Offences. The case materials were submitted to the court.
The applicable provision provides for a fine and the confiscation of the excisable goods constituting the subject of the offence.
The State Revenue Department for the Kostanay Region urges businesses to comply with legal requirements when selling tobacco products and reminds them that the circulation of goods without the prescribed labelling entails administrative liability.
Measures to detect illegally traded excisable goods in the region will continue.
