Banks and microfinance organizations are required to provide a deferment of debt repayments for a period of at least three months, without charging fees or other additional payments, to individual borrowers belonging to socially vulnerable groups (SVGs) and to borrowers affected by emergency situations.
A deferment may be granted if the borrower’s average monthly income for the two months preceding the application has decreased by more than 30 percent compared with the borrower’s average monthly income for the previous 12 months, or if the borrower has been granted targeted social assistance.
