On the eve of the closing of its landmark 92nd theatre season, the Abai Kazakh National Theatre of Opera and Ballet is preparing a grand surprise for residents and guests of the cultural capital. For the first time in its history, the theatre is expanding its usual boundaries and offering audiences a unique two-day project, "Night at the Opera," which will blur the lines between stage and auditorium, uniting high art with the unique spirit of summer in Almaty.
The programme of two unique evenings:
June 25 at 8:00 PM— A Grand Open-Air Concert. On this evening, the historic square in front of the theatre will transform into a majestic stage. Beneath the starry sky, accompanied by a symphony orchestra, leading soloists, and choir, a large-scale musical panorama will unfold. Audiences will be treated to a rich palette of works: from the monumental "O Fortuna" by Carl Orff and dramatic arias from Tchaikovsky'sThe Queen of Spadesto Rossini's sparkling Figaro cavatina and the passionate drinking song from Mascagni'sCavalleria Rusticana. A special place in the programme will be given to gems of national art — the aitys scene from the operaBirzhan and Saraand Abai's poignant song "Ayttym sälem, Qalamqas." The evening will culminate in a rousing finale as all participants perform the famous song "Gül Almatym," uniting hearts in a shared musical moment.
June 26 at 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM— A Musical Evening in the Historic Heart of the Theatre (ARTE Gallery). The second evening will offer guests an even deeper and more refined immersion into the world of art. The theatre will open its doors at a mysterious nighttime hour, inviting connoisseurs of beauty into the legendary historic building — itself an architectural masterpiece and the heart of Almaty's cultural life. The centrepiece of the night will be a grand musical programme in the famous ARTE Gallery. On this evening, the artists will present a rich vocal programme. In the intimate, exclusive setting of the nighttime theatre, masterpieces of world and national classics will sound completely new, transforming the encounter into an unforgettable symphony of impressions.
"Night at the Opera" is a unique chance to experience the grandeur and aesthetics of the theatre in an unusual nighttime format, to enjoy the highest artistry of the opera company, and to become part of a historic event.
