The Department’s responsibilities within the Ministry’s scope include:

1. Implementing state policy on ecology and natural resources in cooperation with foreign states and international organizations, in alignment with the state's foreign policy.

2. Monitoring and managing interactions with foreign states through bilateral and multilateral cooperation on ecology, geology, and natural resources.

3. Integrating into the international community and safeguarding national interests in ecology, geology, and natural resources within frameworks such as the United Nations, Eurasian Economic Union, Commonwealth of Independent States, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

4. Facilitating the negotiation and conclusion of international treaties and agreements related to ecology, geology, and natural resources.

5. Organizing international events, both in Kazakhstan and abroad, on topics related to ecology, geology, and natural resources.
