Lastayev Artur Ermekovich
Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan
Biography
Born in 1983, Almaty.
In 2005, he graduated with honors from Al-Farabi Kazakh State University with a degree in International Law.
In 2007, he obtained a Master’s degree in Fundamentals of Economics and Law from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
In 2015, he completed graduate-level programs in Criminal Justice at the University of the Virginia, USA (Certificate), and at the FBI National Academy, Quantico, USA (Diploma).
In 2018, he earned a Master's degree diploma in International Law in Armed Conflict at the University of Geneva, Switzerland.
2006–2016 – served in the prosecution authorities of Almaty and the Prosecutor General’s Office.
2016–2022 – undertook diplomatic service at both the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva and the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Swiss Confederation.
2022 – Head of the International Legal Cooperation Service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
2022–2026 – Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan (after being elected by the Senate of the Parliament).
On 24 August 2026 аppointed Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan by Decree of the Head of State.
He has been awarded with the 2nd degree Order of «Aibyn», the Order of «Parasat», medals and other distinctions.
