Stockholm, August 25, 2026 – The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of Sweden, Olzhas Suleimenov, took part in the annual award ceremony for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, held under the patronage of the Crown Princess of Sweden, Victoria, as part of World Water Week in Stockholm.
Kazakhstan was represented at the competition by Adilbay Altair, a 9th-grade student at the Sh. Ualikhanov Private School in Almaty, with his project “FloodSense” – an affordable multisensor early-warning system for flood-prone communities in Kazakhstan.
The solution combines a network of affordable sensors, satellite data, and cloud computing and artificial intelligence tools to monitor water levels and weather conditions in real time, assess risks, and promptly alert the public.
The participation of a Kazakhstani school pupil in a competition of this level demonstrates the growing interest of Kazakhstan’s younger generation in science and in tackling pressing environmental challenges. It also complements Kazakhstan’s international water agenda, including the initiative by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to establish a specialized international water organization under the auspices of the UN, aimed at consolidating global water resource management.
