Istanbul, July 5, 2026 – At the initiative of the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Istanbul, a concert was organized in Istanbul, Türkiye to celebrate the National Dombra Day.
Celebrated annually on the first Sunday of July, National Dombra Day is an important occasion dedicated to preserving the spiritual heritage of the Kazakh people and promoting the country's traditional musical culture. To mark the occasion, a creative ensemble comprising Kazakh students studying in Türkiye, members of the Kazakh diaspora, and Turkish admirers of Kazakh culture performed mini-concerts at some of Istanbul's most iconic historical and tourist landmarks, including Ortaköy Square, the Galata Tower, and the Fatih district, introducing local residents and international visitors to the rich tradition of Kazakh kui music.
During the performances, renowned traditional Kazakh kui compositions were presented, while audiences were introduced to the significance of the dombra in Kazakh culture, as well as its spiritual, educational, and cultural value. The performances attracted considerable interest from both local residents and foreign tourists, many of whom expressed their admiration for Kazakhstan's rich musical heritage.
As part of the annual final concert of the dombra course, the students performed traditional Kazakh kui pieces, demonstrating the skills they had acquired throughout the year. The event was attended by representatives of local authorities, public figures, members of the intellectual community, representatives of the Kazakh diaspora, Kazakh students studying in Türkiye, and local residents.
The events held in celebration of National Dombra Day further strengthened cultural and humanitarian ties between Kazakhstan and Türkiye while promoting the rich musical heritage of the Kazakh people on the international stage. The celebration also served as an important cultural initiative aimed at preserving the national identity of young Kazakhs living abroad, fostering respect for national traditions among the younger generation, and introducing the art of the Kazakh dombra to a wider international audience.
