Academic ranks will be mutually recognized within the EAEU

On August 6–7, 2026, at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, the heads of government of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) signed the Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Documents on Academic Titles in the EAEU Member States.

The Agreement provides for mutual recognition without undergoing national recognition procedures of documents on the academic titles of senior researcher, associate professor, associate professor (docent), and professor issued by authorized bodies of the EAEU member states.

Thus, documents on academic titles issued in the Republic of Kazakhstan will be recognized in the territories of other EAEU member states without undergoing additional confirmation procedures. Moreover, the provisions of the Agreement also apply to documents on academic titles issued before its entry into force.

The implementation of the Agreement will enable scientific and scientific-pedagogical workers to carry out labor activities within the common EAEU labor market, reduce administrative procedures for employment, and also lower the time and financial costs for citizens associated with the recognition of documents on academic titles.

It should be noted that earlier, on May 2, 2024, the Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Documents on Academic Degrees entered into force in the EAEU member states.
