The anniversary of Arkalyk has become the starting point for a large-scale renewal of the city. Major infrastructure projects are being implemented for the 70th anniversary, engineering networks are being modernized, and conditions are being created for the long-term development of the Torgai region.
During a working trip, Akim of Kostanay Region Kumar Aksakalov emphasized that the main task of the anniversary year is not celebration, but the restoration of the city in accordance with the instructions of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Time to take off!
One of the largest projects has been the restoration of Arkalyk Airport. The construction of airport infrastructure facilities has been completed, and the reconstruction of airfield infrastructure is ongoing. The airport is undergoing the certification procedure.
"The opening of the airport will ensure transport accessibility for more than 80,000 residents of Arkalyk, Amangeldy, Dzhangeldy, and Zharkain districts, improve access to services, and create conditions for business development and attracting investment," noted the head of the region.
Full speed ahead: a new railway station and a strategic highway
The reconstruction of the railway station built in 1972 has been completed: the building area has been increased, engineering systems have been updated, and conditions for passengers have been improved. Starting August 3, a new train "Nurly Zhol – Arkalyk" will begin operating.
The construction of the "Center – West" highway along the route Astana – Arkalyk – Torgai – Irgiz continues, with a total length of 889 km, of which 401 km pass through the territory of Kostanay Region.
The "Zhezkazgan – Arkalyk – Petropavlovsk" road, with a length of 1,166 km, including 125 km in Kostanay Region, is also of great importance. Thanks to the reconstruction of roads, the distance to Kostanay has been reduced to 450 km, and to Astana — to 600 km. This strengthens Arkalyk's role as a transport and logistics hub of the country at the intersection of the "east – west" and "north – south" directions.
Utility reboot: heat, water, and comfort for Arkalyk
The modernization of utility infrastructure continues.
"Since 2023, 17.3 km of heating networks have been reconstructed. Their wear has been reduced from 90% to 50%, and heat losses — from 32% to 22.1%. Work on updating the networks and equipment of the CHP plant continues," emphasized Kumar Aksakalov.
Over three years, the facades of 65 apartment buildings have been renovated, and 17 more will be repaired this year. A musical pedestrian fountain has been installed, almost 10,000 square meters of paving stones have been laid, and 2,000 trees have been planted.
Four water supply projects have been implemented, and more than 62 km of networks have been reconstructed. Wear has been reduced from 86.4% to 40%, the accident rate has halved, and 100% of the population is provided with centralized water supply. The reconstruction of sewerage networks continues.
Social infrastructure is among the priorities
Over three years, more than 30 social facilities have been repaired, and 43 sports grounds have been built. A sports complex, a sports boarding school with a wrestling hall, and a Palace of Culture have been put into operation. With the support of the "Samruk-Kazyna" Foundation, the construction of an indoor hockey rink and a sports and recreation complex continues. For the 70th anniversary of the city, Arkalyk is also preparing to host the regional summer sports games.
A look into the future
Summarizing the trip, Kumar Aksakalov noted that the main meaning of the anniversary is not festive events, but infrastructure renewal, economic development, and improving the quality of life.
"The 70th anniversary of Arkalyk is not just a series of festive events, concerts, and celebrations. It is, first of all, an opportunity to give a new impetus to the city's development and to implement the tasks set by the Head of State. This is the modernization of infrastructure and the improvement of people's quality of life. But the most important thing is strengthening residents' faith in the future of Arkalyk, confidence that the city is once again becoming a point of growth, attracting investment, youth, and new opportunities," emphasized the head of the region.
