In Kazakhstan, coal transportation is carried out continuously as part of the preparations for the heating season.

The volume of coal transportation by rail in the country for 9 months of 2026 amounted to 77.8 million tons. This is 1.5% more than in the same period last year (for 9 months of 2025-76.6 million tons). Of these, 25 million tons were exported, and more than 51 million tons were transported within the country, the Ministry of transport of Kazakhstan reported.
Since the beginning of preparation for the new heating season, from May 1 to September 30 this year, 28.1 million tons of coal have been transported throughout the country. This volume is the same as the indicator for the corresponding period last year. Of these, 25.8 million tons of coal were sent to thermal power plants (CHP), 2.3 million tons were sent for municipal needs. Fuel reserves at all CHPP are higher than the established standard or at the regulatory level.
In the current heating season, the planned demand for coal for municipal needs is 7.3 million tons. This is 154 thousand tons less than in the previous season. The decline in demand is due to an increase in the level of gasification in the country
