A delegation from Debrecen, headed by Mayor László Papp, is visiting the city of Shymkent. As part of the visit, a business forum was held with the participation of representatives of the business communities of the two cities, where promising areas of trade, economic and investment cooperation, as well as opportunities for implementing joint projects, were discussed. The forum was followed by bilateral B2B meetings, during which entrepreneurs from the two cities presented their projects and discussed potential areas of partnership.
An important part of the programme was a meeting between Mayor of Debrecen László Papp and Mayor of Shymkent Gabit Syzdykbekov. The sides discussed expanding cooperation in the fields of economy, investment, education and humanitarian affairs, as well as exchanging experience in developing urban infrastructure and creating a favourable business environment.
Particular attention was paid to developing direct ties between the two cities. Among the promising initiatives are holding Days of Shymkent in Debrecen and opening a branch of the University of Debrecen in Shymkent.
“Debrecen is one of Hungary’s leading educational, scientific and economic centres. Its experience is of interest to Shymkent, while establishing sister-city relations will create additional opportunities for joint projects and new business contacts,” the Mayor of Shymkent noted.
Following the meeting, a Memorandum on Establishing Sister-City Relations between Shymkent and Debrecen was signed. The document lays the foundation for closer contacts between the two cities and the implementation of joint initiatives in various fields.
Another meaningful event was the joint tree-planting ceremony at the Arboretum, attended by the Mayor of Debrecen and representatives of the business community. The initiative served as a sign of friendship and the two cities’ commitment to long-term partnership.
During the visit, László Papp also gave an interview to local media, speaking about the significance of establishing sister-city relations and the prospects for further contacts between Debrecen and Shymkent.
