On October 1, Kazakhstan observes the Day of Older Persons. This holiday highlights the value of the life experience possessed by the older generation, a significant portion of whom are pension recipients. Their lives are marked by productive labor, devotion to their families, and key milestones in the development of our country.
Today, more than 2.4 million people in the republic receive pension payments. Women make up the majority of recipients, accounting for 64%, while men represent 36%. Thus, women constitute nearly two-thirds of the total number of pension recipients.
Centenarians hold a special place in these statistics. To date, 44 pension recipients in the country have surpassed the age of 100. Among them are individuals with remarkable life stories that inspire genuine admiration. The country’s oldest female pensioner lives in Shymkent; at 106 years of age, she is surrounded by the care of a large, close-knit family.
Among male pensioners, the oldest in the country is 104-year-old Almaty resident Zulkharnai Seitov. A veteran of the Great Patriotic War, a scientist, a Doctor of Biological Sciences, a professor, and an academician, he saw combat from the Battle of Stalingrad all the way to Berlin. After the war, Seitov dedicated decades of his life to science and teaching. He has authored over 150 scientific papers, monographs, and textbooks, and his wartime service has been recognized with the Order of the Red Star, the Order of the Patriotic War (2nd Class), and the medals "For the Defense of Stalingrad" and "For Courage."
The lives of Kazakhstan’s centenarians reflect the unbreakable link between eras and the continuity of generations. Their years of hard work, resilience, and professional achievements have laid a solid foundation for the state's current development.
