New York, 25 September 2026– On the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mukhtar Tileuberdi met with Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation George Tapatula Chaponda.
The key outcome of the meeting was the signing by the Ministers of the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Malawi. The signing formally established diplomatic relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the development of bilateral relations and agreed to make efforts to strengthen political dialogue and expand practical cooperation.
The two sides also discussed prospects for cooperation in mining, digitalization, education and agriculture. Interest was expressed in developing direct contacts between the two countries’ foreign ministries, companies and educational institutions.
In agriculture and food security, the two sides considered opportunities for supplying Kazakh wheat to Malawi, as well as promoting Malawian products, including tea, coffee and macadamia nuts, in the Kazakh market.
The two sides agreed to maintain regular dialogue and further develop mutually beneficial cooperation between Kazakhstan and Malawi.
