More than 700,000 new plants have been added across Astana since the beginning of the year, with greening efforts covering all six districts of the city. The Astana city administration has explained how parks, public gardens and riverfront promenades are transforming the capital’s appeal as a tourist destination.
According to the city’s Urban Planning Centre, Astana is moving towards a connected pedestrian network that brings together extensive green spaces. Urban design improvements are making walking routes increasingly comfortable for residents and visitors alike.
The Centre noted that these public spaces have already become popular with tourists thanks to their comfort, scale, modern amenities and harmonious blend of urban architecture and natural landscapes. Parks and riverfront promenades play a significant role in shaping visitors’ first impressions of Astana and enhancing the city’s tourism appeal.
Greening efforts are continuing in all six districts of the capital. Municipal services are also working to develop urban infrastructure and improve public spaces throughout the city.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 700,000 new plants have been added across Astana, including 21,000 trees and 303,400 ornamental shrubs. According to the city administration, planting will continue into the autumn. This year, the city plans to plant approximately 70,000 trees and more than one million perennial flowers and shrubs.
The city administration also highlighted several areas where extensive greening work has been carried out in recent months. These include the EXPO Park area, the KTZ public garden, Koktal Park, sections of Kumisbekov, Kerey and Zhanibek, Kabanbay Batyr and Kaldayakov streets, Uly Dala Avenue, and other locations.
One of the capital’s main recreational areas remains the park cluster along the Yesil River. It now encompasses an extensive area that includes the Park of Peace and Reconciliation, Presidential Park, Triathlon Park, Atatürk Park, long stretches of riverfront promenade and connecting walkways. Further improvements to this area are planned.
The first phase of greening around Lake Maly Taldykol is also expected to begin soon. Young trees and other plants will be planted while preserving the area’s natural landscape.
Astana currently has around four million trees, shrubs and other green plants, with a further 14 million growing within the capital’s green belt.
