Podgorica, 25 September 2026 - Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Montenegro G. Temirbek met with State Secretary of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs of Montenegro Jovan Šćekić. The parties discussed further development of Kazakh-Montenegrin cooperation in maritime transport, port infrastructure and logistics.
Particular attention was paid to the potential of the Port of Bar in the development of international transport and logistics routes, including the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). The Port of Bar was noted as a potential gateway for Kazakh and transit cargo to the Adriatic Sea and onward to the markets of the Balkans and Europe.
The Consul General briefed the State Secretary on the outcomes of the working visit of Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Croatia and Montenegro (non-resident) Daulet Batrashev on 10-11 September this year, during which meetings were held with the Prime Minister of Montenegro, heads of a number of ministries, as well as the management of JSC Luka Bar. Particular attention during the visit was paid to the development of transport and logistics cooperation between the two countries.
The parties also exchanged views on the use of the Port of Bar infrastructure for the transportation of Kazakh export and transit cargo, the development of freight flows between Central Asia and the Adriatic region, as well as possible forms of cooperation between interested companies of the two countries.
Šćekić confirmed the interest of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs of Montenegro in further developing cooperation with Kazakhstan and outlined plans to modernise the country’s transport infrastructure and enhance digital interaction among stakeholders involved in port operations.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue working on specific areas of cooperation and to maintain direct working contacts between the relevant government authorities, transport and logistics companies, and port operators of Kazakhstan and Montenegro.
The meeting was held as a follow-up to the agreements reached during the official visit of President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović to Kazakhstan on 18-20 June 2026, following which transport and logistics were identified among the priority areas of bilateral cooperation.
